DIY Event Schedule & Judging Information

Friday Evening 6-9pm

Welcome and registration for DIY speaker challenge 6-9 pm located at Holiday Inn Express.   All entrants in the DIY Challenge are invited!  Beverages and Snacks provided by Parts Express.  In order for us to plan for this event, please pre-register via this website to enter the DIY speaker building competition. Multiple contest submissions ARE allowed however this may change due to the limited amount of judging time we have. Registration check-in will be held Friday, July 10th 6-9 pm and Saturday, July 11th, 9-9:30am at the Holiday Inn Express. Please bring your speaker entries, a short one page overview of the system and components used in the construction of them. 

Contest & Judging information:

Each speaker project will be evaluated by a panel of independent judges. In addition, project submitters will be voting on each others' projects this year and these votes will be included with the panel judges votes to determine winners. 

There will be THREE PROJECT CATEGORIES. 

 Dayton Audio

             Speaker project must use at least one Dayton Audio driver in the project design. 

              Any dollar amount or size.

 Open Drivers (any brand, any type, no restrictions)

             Speaker project can include any brand drivers.

                     1) Projects <$200 / speaker to build ($ limit for drivers only)

                     2) Projects >$200 / speaker to build ($ limit for drivers only)

Note: The dollar amount limits are for the speaker pair.

Open Unlimited

             Speaker Projects that are active or cannot be categorized in the other 2 areas.

1 winner in the Dayton Audio category, 2 winners in the Open Drivers category, 1 winner in Open Unlimited.

There will be 3 one-minute snippets of music listened to by the judges. 

The judges will be using a form which will include the following areas that will be used to determine the winners of the Dayton DIY contest:

Craftsmanship (visual) - Originality / Design (visual) -

Balance (audio) -  Bass Extension (audio) -  Imaging (audio)

Each speaker will be evaluated and rated by the judges, then tabulated and results entered into a spreadsheet. These votes will be added with the project submitter votes to achieve winners in the categories listed above.  From this sheet, total point winners will be selected in the categories listed above. 

The final judging sheet will be posted for download on the Dayton DIY website following the event.  In the event of a tie within a class, judging will move to a head to head format with the ultimate winner selected by a show of hands.

After the DIY event is over, judging forms will be returned to the designer as feedback.

Each entrant will receive a free Dayton DIY t-shirt

to wear during the event Saturday.

* Please note: Parts Express & Dayton Audio cannot be responsible for lost or stolen speakers, however, every measure will be taken to protect your speakers from damage or theft.  Winning entries will be evaluated for possible feature project in an upcoming Parts Express flyer and website.  Entries will be returned to the owner by providing the speaker project's tag entry ticket.
